French officials have confirmed the death of police dog Diesel, a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois shepherd who specialized in explosive detection and patrol work.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, French police raided several apartments in the northern Paris suburb of Saint-Denis in search of arch terrorist Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a mastermind in the Paris shootings.
During one of the raids, a woman detonated a suicide vest she was wearing. The shrapnel hit Diesel who later succumbed to his wounds.
The French SWAT team tweeted that Diesel “was killed by terrorists in the current operation in Saint-Denis”.
Reports are coming out that Diesel was not wearing a bullet-proof vest during the raid.
RIP Diesel.
